4-19-08 Practical Preterism with John Hedges In this podcast Ward Fenley and Tami Jelinek are joined by special guest John Hedges. We discuss some general trends in preteristic thought and teaching, and contrast them with a Biblical response to fulfilled redemption: moving beyond proving the timing of fulfillment to discover its impact on our lives and relationships. We revisit the "now what?" questions we first asked upon seeing the past fulfillment of "end times" prophetic texts. How do we experience the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies in our lives? What is the chief characteristic of the Kingdom of God, and how do we communicate it with relevance to those around us? We discuss not only the stagnant movement of preterism and why the movement cannot grow in its present state, but also the primary characteristics needed in the church and kingdom of God to inspire those whose trust is in the finished work of the cross and presence of Jesus Christ.

listen to John's conference message:
John Hedges was born in Cambridge, England and soon thereafter moved to Dallas, Texas. At the age of 16 he returned to England and spent the following three years there, before moving back to the U.S. At the age of 20, he realized the saving power of Jesus Christ. In 1999 John met Rene Munn and they were married later that same year in Las Vegas. In 2003, having become disillusioned with the failed prophecies of dispensationalism, John read James Stuart Russell's The Parousia. Things started adding up and before he had finished the first third of the book, he realized that the promises of Christ were in fact a complete and present reality. A few months later Rene came to the same conclusion concerning fulfilled eschatology. John is currently a professional bookseller and Rene is an elementary schoolteacher working on her second and third master's degrees. John and Rene live in Berthoud, Colorado. Together their focus is on the sovereignty of God, and sharing the realization of Revelation 21:3 with others: Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
